Now most of you might assume that with its name, Orange is a citrus growing region. In fact the first settlement of mostly convicts, was originally called Blackman’s Swamp, named after the guide, John Blackman, who was employed by the early explorer Captain Percy Simpson to help with his tasks.

The main industries of the city include Mining, Agriculture, Education and Health. The horticulture is mostly growing stone fruits, as the region is too cold to grow citrus fruits.

Orange is serviced by two railway stations on the Main West Line, it has a regional airport and is a road link for Bathurst with the major cities in the East.

Orange City Council’s website offers more reading on the City.
