Sanctuary Cove was founded on a dream by the late Mike Gore and has certainly had its ups and downs. Visiting the area today, with its multi-million dollar homes, manicured streets and private security patrols, it seems hard to believe that this almost never happened.

In 1987 the Cove was officially opened with a bang. Frank Sinatra performed at was was termed the Ultimate Event, costing approximately $16 million. From then the critics jumped on every opportunity to point out the environmental aspects of the development, labeling it ‘Cement Cove’.

EIE, the Japanese owners of Sanctuary Cove in 1993 struck some problems with their financiers and again all seemed lost. With a lot of hard work from people like Geoff Grady, the area remained and kept its identity and in 2002 started its climb again.

Home to the Hyatt Regency and the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, which sees it 20th annual event in 2008, the area continues to be popular with residents, locals and visitors to the Gold Coast.
