For many years Maroochydore has been the unofficial capital of the Sunshine Coast. Home to the major shopping centre’s, retail precincts and commercial enterprises, it still remains the focal point for the resident population.
Based on the banks of the Maroochy River, the city, like many of the other towns on the coast, offers the choice of ocean swell or estuarine conditions. The river was once the site of a large saw mill and provided access to ships and barges that would transport the timber to other location through-out the state.
Across the river in Mudjimba is the Sunshine Coast Airport, which provides daily flights to most capital cities on the eastern sea board of Australia, from both Virgin Blue and Jetstar.
The Maroochy Tourism website has more information on the area for those keen to read on.
