Sydney Film Festival
The Sydney Film Festival started in 1954 and remains one of the longest running film festivals in the world. It has an extensive history showcasing the latest independent films from Australian and overseas filmmakers
The Film Festival started at Sydney University over 4 days in 1954. It remained at the University till 1968 at which point it ran at the Wintergarden in Rose Bay. in 1974 it again moved to it’s current location, the historic State Theatre in Sydney’s centre.
There are strict guidelines regarding screenings of films. Audiences see films that are not available as general release. There are also six audience awards, awarded at the end of the festival, throughout the 12 day event. The Dendy Awards for Australian short film also award $5000 across numerous categories.
