If you're driving your rental vehicle between Sydney and Newcastle along the M1 Pacific Highway, you can't the exit for Gosford. While you might have not heard of the Central Coast city before, it might be worth a stop.

As with many smaller Australian centres, Gosford is filled of unique experiences and sights – something that you'd miss if you just steamed towards Newcastle! So, before you drive onto your destination, check out everything and more that Gosford has to offer!

1) Australian Reptile Park

If there is something that almost all visitors to Australia know before they arrive, it's that the country is filled with weird and wacky animals. Want to see almost all of them in one place? Then check out Australian Reptile Park!

Located west of the M1 Pacific Highway, the park offers the chance to see birds, mammals, reptiles, spiders and amphibians up close (but not too close). If you have a bit of time on your hands, be sure to check out some of the behind the scenes tour available. Get cuddly with a koala, feed the reptiles off-display or even get a picture with a python.

After a day at Australian Reptile Park, you'll have certainly learnt a thing or two about these little (and big) critters.

2) Gosford Classic Car Museum

Do you have a petrolhead in your road trip party? Well, perhaps they will want to stop off at Gosford Classic Car Museum – the largest car museum in the southern hemisphere. The massive museum covers more than 11,000 square metres and displays around 450 cars – valued at more than $70 million.

Don't forget to take a look at the Ferrari Enzo, Porsche 959 and Wolseley 24/80 – all classic cars that deserve a selfie!

3) Central Coast Stadium

Even though Gosford only has a population of around 160,000, professional sport doesn't forget this northern NSW hub. The city's main sporting team is the Central Coast Mariners that play in the Hyundai A-League. As a foundation club, Central Coast has won one title (2012-13 season) defeating Western Sydney Wanderers – an impressive feat from a team with limited resources.

The club plays at Central Coast Stadium which also plays host to several NRL fixtures during the season, namely home games of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles. The Gosford crowd are always passionate and loud so check out a match if you can!
