If you love street parades, live music, free entertainment and delicious food, then Port Douglas is calling your name. The Port Douglas Carnivale will be held in this beautiful Tropical North Queensland town in May, and promises nine days of fun-filled activities that everyone will enjoy.

Organise yourself a Cairns car rental and make your way from there to Port Douglas to get in on some of the action!

Here is a taste of what you can expect from this year’s Carnivale:

Fresh, fabulous food

If the Port Douglas Carnivale does one thing exceptionally well, it’s food! The opening weekend (May 17-19) kicks off with the Sheraton Mirage Longest Lunch, as well as a cooking class with top chef James Long and a port-tasting session. There are many more food events throughout the week, and then the Carnivale ends on a high note with a big Seafood Extravaganza on the marina.

Live entertainment

It wouldn’t be a Carnivale without some live entertainment! Whether you are interested in comedy or live music, there will definitely be something to entertain you. The Rio Party (May 25) looks like a winner for anyone who loves dancing, while the A Taste of Paradise concert by Daryl Braithwaite will be perfect for all those who enjoy a good sing-a-long.

Street parades and markets

In addition to great food and free entertainment, there will also be markets to satisfy the shop-a-holics. If you are heading down to the Carnivale with the kids, then you will also want to enjoy the Beach Day (May 18) and get a good spot to watch the Macrossan Street Parade (May 17).

This is the 19th year that the Port Douglas Carnivale has been held, so be sure to organise your car rental and drive to the beautiful seaside town to see the event for yourself.

Carnivale manager Ken Dobbs said that he was excited to see this year’s event come together.

“For 19 years this celebration of life in the tropics has been going strong and this year will be the biggest yet,” he said.

“With the calibre of celebrities such as Ben and Darryl, as well as gourmet food events across both weekends, we are extremely excited.”
