If you’re planning to be in Melbourne this weekend, you may want to check out the Gelato World Tour.
This event will see 16 of the best gelato-makers from Australia and New Zealand battle it out to see who can create the most delicious flavour.
If you’re not planning to be in Melbourne this weekend, you should be! Book your flights, organise your Melbourne Airport car rentals with us and prepare your taste buds for three days of delight.
From October 25 to 27, visitors to the city will be able to partake in gelato workshops, discover what it takes to open a gelato business, and watch professional gelato-makers work their magic.
These events are all free to attend. If, however, you would like to taste the gelato flavours that this year’s competitors devise, you will need to purchase a Gelato Ticket for $10.
This will give you five gelato samples and the opportunity to vote for your favourite in an interactive poll.
Whichever gelato-maker comes out on top at the Gelato World Tour will win themselves a trip to the Grand Finale, which will be held in Rimini (Italy) in September next year.
So, make sure you choose wisely!
Guy Grossi, Australian chef and media personality, and Ottorino Pace, founder and owner of Casa Del Gelato in Melbourne, will also have a say in who will move on to the next stage in this international competition.
If you have time (and you still have room in your stomach), you might want to head over the Casa Del Gelato and try some of Mr Pace’s delicious gelato.
He’s been working with ice cream since he was 15 years old, and opened his Melbourne store way back in 1980. Casa Del Gelato offers a wide range of flavours made from locally sourced, fresh ingredients.
We recommend the Amarena (sour cherry) gelato, or the Chili Chocolate if you’re feeling adventurous!
On Friday (October 25), you will get to see the gelato-makers creating their flavours. This will be followed by a gelato workshop, hosted by Alice Vignoli.
Alice is an instructor at Carpigiani Gelato University – yes, there’s an entire institution dedicated to training gelato-makers!
If you’re in town on Sunday (October 27), there will be another workshop – this time hosted by Nick Palumbo – called ‘The Gelato Messina Black Forest Cake Demonstration’, which will take place at 1pm.
And, once all the votes have been cast, an awards ceremony will be held at 3pm and the winner of the Gelato World Tour will be announced.
So, what are you waiting for? Organise your Melbourne CBD car hire today, and get ready for some seriously good gelato.
