One of the best ways to explore a new area when you are on holiday is to do a spot of shopping at the markets.
Whether you want to sample the best local produce or take home some souvenirs for the family, markets are a great way to see what an area has to offer!
Cairns is home to some awesome shopping stalls – here are three must-see markets for next time you are in this lovely Tropical North Queensland city.
Esplanade Market Stalls
There is always something happening at the Cairns Esplanade! Located on the waterfront, this part of town is popular with families, with a saltwater lagoon for swimming, lush grasses for picnics and of course market stalls for a spot of shopping.
Open from 8am to 4pm every Saturday, the Cairns Esplanade Markets sell everything from woodcraft and leatherwork to contemporary clothes and jewellery. There are even airbrush tattoo and massage stands!
Cairns Night Markets
Who said markets were just for Saturday and Sunday mornings? The Cairns Night Markets come alive when the sun goes down! They are also open every evening from 4.30 to 11.30pm, providing you with plenty of time to get amongst the action.
With over 20 stalls and an extensive food court, head here to grab something delicious for dinner while you browse what’s on sale.
Cairns Mud Market
Don’t be put off by the name – you don’t need gumboots for the Cairns Mud Market! In fact, this market is located indoors and is even air conditioned, making it the perfect destination on a rainy day.
Open every Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 3pm, the Cairns Mud Market has something for everyone, whether you are after a bite to eat or want to take home a locally-made souvenir.
Be sure to organise a Cairns Airport car hire to see everything you want to in this beautiful part of Tropical North Queensland!
