1. The Boxing Day Test Match – Melbourne Cricket Ground
You don’t have to love cricket, or even sport, to enjoy the famous Boxing Day Test Match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It’s one of the most famous sporting venues around the world for a start, and this year will play host to the penultimate Ashes test of the summer as Australia face off against England.
Cricket fans will be in full voice, but anyone who loves a day in the sun drinking beer and eating what is essentially pub food will love the Boxing Day Test. You don’t have to stay for the whole five days, but the first two days are particularly enjoyable for everyone. It’s like a big party, so head along and enjoy the spirit of sport.

2. Field Day – The Domain, Sydney
When you’ve had enough of the cricket, make a beeline for Sydney before the end of the year. Field Day in Sydney is renowned for being one of the best ways to bring in the New Year.
A friendly atmosphere in The Domain (a beautiful outdoor venue) sets the scene for a night of hip-hop, indie, electronic fun. The atmosphere is super engaging, and you’ll love singing in 2018 with all the party people at Sydney’s most popular boutique music festival. Head out earlier in the day and see the last sunset of 2017 with the fine folk you’ll be dancing with for the rest of the night.

The tournament Main Draw runs from January 15-28, so you’ll have a bit of time to recover from your New Year’s celebrations before getting back to Melbourne for this exciting two-week event. Travel down the coast and stop in at some of the most magnificent beaches you’ll ever find before sitting back and relaxing while you watch maybe the best tennis you’ll ever see in your life.

The women’s final is on the 27th and the men’s is the next day. If you only want to see the opening few rounds, you could save a bit of money, but if you’re more into the business end of sports, stick around for the finals. Again, you don’t have to be the world’s biggest tennis fan to enjoy a few days at Melbourne Park with your family and friends.
