Melbourne has yet again proved it’s worthiness as one of the world’s top sporting cities by taking top spot in an international study – being named the world’s Ultimate Sports City for the third consecutive time.
We won the honours ahead of Singapore, London, Berlin and Sydney at the SportAccord Convention in Dubai – a hat-trick as we won the coveted title the last two times in 2006 and 2008.
The city’s enviable calendar of major sporting events has put Melbourne and Victoria in the national and international spotlight, with more than 7.5 million fans flocking to Melbourne’s marquee sporting events last year.
Ultimate Sports Cities 2010 said, “…. excellent facilities, strong government support, exceptional legacy planning, not to mention fabulous weather make it a worthy winner once again.”
