There are 1,001 reasons why Sydney is the perfect holiday destination. Even if you lived there permanently you’d be hard pressed to see and do all there is on offer!

However, there’s so much fun to be had in trying. One of the best ways to see the many different sides of Sydney is to ‘theme’ your visits. For example, dedicate a weekend to exploring the city’s culinary delights or soaking up the sun on its beautiful northern beaches.

Or how about a theatre-themed trip? Some of the world’s best shows come to Sydney’s shores and what better way to enjoy a holiday than by relaxing in the stalls with champagne and enjoying a good spectacle?

With a little bit of forward planning you can see the best that theatre has to offer. Here is a round-up of fantastic shows and musicals coming to Sydney in the next few months.

Grease

Grease is such a classic show and you probably know the words to all the songs (and to most of the dialogue, at that!). See all your favourite characters come to life before your eyes by catching the musical at The Lyric Theatre in Pyrmont, Sydney.

Although a popular US show, this Sydney cast is about as Australian as you can get, with stars such as Rob Mills, Gretel Scarlett and Bert Newton in leading roles.

Running until December 8 2013, the Grease musical is the perfect excuse for a quick pre-Christmas trip to Sydney.

Waiting for Godot

This adaptation of the quirky, award-winning play is sure to keep you guessing right until the end. A two person show – performed by Hugo Weaving and Richard Roxburgh – you could be forgiven in thinking it’d be a ‘bit basic’.

However as far as shows go, this is one of the best. With rave reviews and exceptional performances by both Weaving and Roxburgh, Waiting for Godot is a play you won’t forget in a hurry.

Book your tickets now to see it at the Sydney Theatre. This season runs until December 21.

WHOOPS! The Wharf Revue 2013

If you only have time for one show, then be sure to see WHOOPS! The Wharf Revue 2013. This spectacle offers a bit of everything – singing, dancing, acting and a lot of comedy.

Be prepared to laugh until you cry as you enjoy the many different skits carried out by an excellent cast including Amanda Bishop, Simon Burke and Andrew Worboys.

A Sydney Theatre Company show, you can see it at the Wharf 1 Theatre, Pier 4/5 on Hickson Road in Walsh Bay.

While you’re there, be sure to pop into the Sydney Theatre and also take a walk around the area. There are plenty of excellent restaurants and shops nearby, allowing you to make a real night out of it!

Catch a show at the Sydney Opera House

As the city’s most iconic landmark, there are so many shows going on at the Sydney Opera House it’d be impossible to list them all!

Whether you go and see the some of world’s best magicians perform live or catch some classic Shakespeare, there are shows to suit everyone’s taste.

When you pick up your car rental in Sydney airport simply enter the Opera House in your GPS and head straight to see this famous attraction.

The shows listed above are just a taste of what’s on the Sydney theatre horizon. No matter what time of year you feel like taking a road trip to the city, you’ll be sure to be able to catch a range of theatrical splendour in your Sydney Airport car hire – from amateur skits to Broadway excellence.
