If you want to treat your ears and mind to a musical extravaganza, you may want to consider picking up a car hire in Adelaide and making the trip to South Australia.

The fifth biggest city in Australia is set to be home to a wide range of music festivals in the next few months, including the Big Day Out and Laneway extravaganzas.

Big Day Out Adelaide

Set to grace the stage, or stages, of Bonython Park on January 31, this festival is well known for its impressive line-up of international artists.

The 2014 event is headlined by Pearl Jam, Arcade Fire and the artist formerly known as Snoop Dogg, Snoop Lion.

Beady Eye, the Hives and Deftones have replaced Blur on the line-up, giving the punters something else to look forward to.

It is not all about music, however, with plenty of good food to enjoy at the festival including the return of Chow Town.

This festival food offering is presented by the Sydney Morning Herald's Chefs of the Year, Ben & Elvis from Porteño and Bodega.

If you attend this festival in Adelaide you can also experience a performance by  the band 360, as this is exclusive to this city.

St Jerome's Laneway

This festival is set to take place on Friday February 7 at Hart's Mill. Enthusiastic festival-goers  could consider staying around the area after the Big Day Out to take in the action of this event, too.

This annual occasion aims to promote new music and is dedicated to finding new talent to show off in a unique setting.

There is a huge line-up this year, and certain artists, including Haim, Lorde, the Jezabels and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, are doing exclusive performances at this festival with no additional sideshows.

Future Music Festival

This is the first year the iconic festival has opened its doors to Adelaide. It has expanded rapidly from its 2006 beginnings at the Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney.

That is not the only development festival goers will be able to experience, with new technologies such as audio mapping to be unveiled at the event.

This means no matter where in the crowd you are you will be able to hear the sounds of your favourite artists, crystal-clear.

There is a vast number of artists performing at this event, including international favourites Deadmau5, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, and Phoenix among others.
