Although the very first performance of this award winning musical will occur in late July, the regular shows start in earnest in August. Make sure you visit this standing-ovation worthy spectacle while exploring Sydney, and let your inner thespian shine.

Zirka Circus, Melbourne

For decades, families have been visiting the circus as a special treat that both parents and kids enjoy. Zirka Circus is an entertaining display of jaw-dropping acrobatics, dazzling costumes, special effect illusions and choreography that make for a fun-filled evening.

This is the first time Zirka Circus is touring Australia, so be sure to be among the first to see it to be the ultimate trend setters. Tickets are free for tots under two (try saying that tounge-twister quickly a few times!) so be sure to take your little ones along.

Netball World Cup, Sydney

Running from August 7 to 16, this international sporting event will draw crowds of fans to see their favourite netball stars rock the court. This event is only held every four years, so don't miss out! It's on our own shores this year, so there's no reason not to attend. Best of all, Australia are the defending champions, so save your vocal chords for chanting the iconic 'Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi' at the top of your lungs as you cheer on our national team.

With 16 different countries competing for the cup this year, including the talented teams from New Zealand, England and Jamaica. It is sure to be a fierce battle. Get your tickets as soon as possible!

Brisbane Good Food Month, ends August 9

Savour the scrumptious food on offer at street markets and fine dining restaurants throughout the city. Certain establishments are also on board with treating patrons to better deals, such as the Sunday Family Lunch specials. Breakfast, lunch and dinner menus at most cafes and restaurants in the city have taken the time to craft up novel dishes to celebrate the month. Make sure you visit as many places as possible as you travel through Brisbane.

This event runs from July 9 to August 9, so make the most of it before your tummy rumbles with anger at the food envy you experience once you see how amazing the cuisine is. Here is a picture of the set up of the Night Food Markets as part of the event – just imagine how pretty these lanterns will be at night!

South Australia Living Artists Festival, Adelaide

For those who want food for thought as well as meals in their belly, the South Australia Living Artists Festival (SALA) is a must visit. Running throughout the entire month of August in the charming city of Adelaide, this festival is an excellent opportunity to engage with Aussie art and culture.

This year marks the 18th time this festival has been held. A staggering 610 exhibitions and events have been organised throughout the month, showcasing the work of 5,205 artists, as noted by the event's official website.

You even get to meet artists face to face during the Open Studio weekend, hosted over August 8-9. Make the most of this time to have those deep, meaningful conversations that linger in your memories for a lifetime.

Another key date to mark in your calendar for the SALA festival is Sunday, August 16. On this date, the SALA Gala in the Garden event will be held, with live artist demonstrations and children's painting workshops. See these creative geniuses create masterpieces right before your eyes, especially as you sip on wine and munch on local produce on sale at the outdoor event.

With so many diverse and delightful events traversing the country this August, there's something for everyone. Share the news with all your friends and family so you can all pencil these dates into your diaries or calendars. Where will you road trip to first?
