The beginning of July in Australia sees school kids going on a mid-year holiday break. This means there are a number of fantastic events for kids taking place in Melbourne throughout the month. Here are just some of the great things to check out:
Roola Boola Children's Arts Festival
July 1 – 4, Chapel Off Chapel
This event is sure to be bundles of fun for everyone involved. With theatre, music, puppetry dance and a hearty dose of magic, this circus event will ignite your child's imagination. It consists of shows and workshops that are perfect for kids between the ages of 4-12.
Some shows include The Great Magic Off, where wicked magicians host a show with puppets, comedy, singalongs and magic. You're bound to laugh and be awed right along with your children! Dreamer in Space follows the story of Dreamer, who loves all things astronomy. Puppets and black light theatre combine to tell the tale of how Dreamer ventures from the Australian outback to a remote solar system.
After being inspired by these various shows, your kids can create their own magic at workshops such as Tabletop Animation, Shadow Tricks and Ukulele Workshop.
KarraKids Winter Holiday Workshops
July 1 – 3, Karralyka Centre
This holiday program is set to be a wonderful experience for your child. There are a range of workshops to choose from so whether your kid is passionate about music, dance or theatre, they will find something they love.
The Big Top Circus Class will have your child learning the art of juggling and tricks of circus performers. Get Down and Funky is a chance for your kid to groove to smooth jazz music, and at Jungle Jammin, they will have the opportunity to play on African drums and other instruments. Don't miss out on the finale concert where you can see it all come together!
Thomas and the Hidden Treasure
July 2 – 5, Arts Centre Melbourne
The classic toy and game comes to life in this stage musical show. More than 14 life-size engines, including those you know and love already, like Thomas, Percy, James and Gordon, take you on an adventure. The lively story of pirates and long-lost treasure is told with song and dance. Your child will be singing the catchy Thomas songs all the way home.
Disney on Ice: Treasure Trove
July 3 – 7, Hisense Arena
Your child's favourite animated characters come to life in this delightful show. New princesses take to the stage along with forever favourites, such as Snow White, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty and Mulan. Joined with their princes and other recognisable characters, they sing and dance to classic songs and skate effortlessly around the ice.
Join in with the tunes you know by heart, from the epic Circle of Life from The Lion King, to the soft and lovely Tale As Old As Time, from The Beauty and the Beast.
A great way to make your way through the city is with a Melbourne rental car. You won't have to worry about missing your train or bus, or paying an exorbitant amount for a taxi, and you will be able to stop in at all of these highlights.
