East Coast Car Rentals is proud to announce a new partnership with acclaimed Australian photographer Trent Mitchell, supporting his work to document Australia through his distinctive lens and shine a light on the roads, places and regional communities that reward those who travel beyond the familiar.
The partnership embodies East Coast Car Rentals’ core mantra – there starts here, where the open road awaits and can be unlocked with a set of keys.
From the vast openness of the Nullarbor to the tropical coastline between Cairns and Brisbane, Mitchell’s recent work with East Coast Car Rentals captures an Australia shaped as much by the journey as the destination. His photographs draw attention to regional towns where time appears to move more slowly and change arrives less visibly, creating a compelling contrast with Australia’s rapidly evolving cities and landscapes.
Recently, Mitchell revisited locations from his celebrated Australian Lustre book during a Nullarbor road trip, while also documenting the world’s longest golf course for an article in The Guardian. His ongoing travels, including a journey from Cairns to Brisbane, continue this exploration of the country’s quieter roads and unexpected stories.
“Travel by road gives you the chance to make last-minute decisions, head down a random road and find things you wouldn’t have otherwise found,” said Trent Mitchell. “Regional Australia has a remarkable sense of character; its people, landscapes and small details tell stories that are often missed when we move too quickly.”
Through the partnership, East Coast Car Rentals will help Mitchell get on the road and continue documenting the many perspectives that make up modern Australia. Together, they will share a view of the great Australian road trip from the window of a rental car–a familiar experience enjoyed by Australians for decades, made fresh through Mitchell’s eye.
