Australia Day Festival
Head down to the South Bank Parklands where you can catch all the action on our country’s special day.
The vibrant festival will kick off with the traditional flag raising ceremony at 11.15 am and the celebrations will continue on until the late evening. You can enjoy a stage program, and there will also be some Australian-themed hands-on activities available if you want to feel more involved.
On top of that, there will be live music performances to watch, including shows by Evermore and Busby Marou. The event will be topped off with a spectacular fireworks display over the Brisbane River, so make sure you get there early so you can find a good seat!
Story Bridge Cockroach race
This historic competition is a Brisbane tradition and can bring in the crowds. In the past over 7,000 visitors have come to watch the creepy crawlies battle it out for first place.
This event takes place at the Story Bridge Hotel and starts at 11 am. Entry is on gold coin donation so ensure you have some change with you.
South Passage Sail Day
Another Brisbane-only event to experience this Australia Day is this cruise. You can come and see what it was like for the Australian settlers as the crew, garbed in their 19th century best, will demonstrate some of the period’s top traditions.
Australia Day Brunch
The famous eatery Bacchus is hosting a luxury brunch from 12 – 2pm on January 26, so head down and expect to partake in some Champagne and oysters.
Ambiance will be provided by local DJs as well as Sons of Midnight, so this is one surefire way to get in the green and gold spirit!
Archive Beer Boutique
After brunch you could always to head down to the Archive Beer Boutique to enjoy a cold brew as well as the live ambiance of the Triple J hottest 100 countdown played live in front of your eyes.
Other attractions of this afternoon include prizes, giveaways and some impressive street art.
Moonlight Cinema
If you want something more relaxing to wind down the evening, look no further. Head down to New Farm Park and you can watch Australian blockbuster, The Sapphires, on the big screen.
