While there are many great ways to explore all the exciting suburbs located in Brisbane, some are more unusual than others.

Here are five great ways you can see all of Brisbane.

Steam Railway Sundays

If you're keen to explore a bit of Bayside's history, what better way to do it than at the Brisbane Steam Railway Society?

This is located in Wynnum and runs on the first and third Sunday of every month from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. so you have plenty of opportunity to head down when you're renting a car in Brisbane.

This is a great family activity suitable for all ages.

Parkrun Australia

Every week there is a fun weekly timed run. The 5km stretch will not only provide you with a bit of exercise but will also allow you the opportunity to see some of the city's beautiful surroundings on foot.

The South Bank run is a great example. It runs every Saturday from 7 a.m. in the South Bank Parklands. Make sure you register ahead of time so you have a paper barcode in order to track your time.

Quad bike adventure

ATV quad bikes provide a thrill that you cannot get from walking around the city streets and seeing as this activity is located in beautiful Moreton Island, it also provides you with a fabulous view.

Take the whole family for an adventure they will never forget.

Boggo Road Gaol Tours

This is one of Australia's most notorious prisons. It made news in the 1980s after a spate of dramatic escapes, riots, rooftop protests and hunger strikes.

Although the number two division is all that's left, it begs to be explored as there are many secrets still to be revealed.

There are daily historical tours of this slice of Brisbane's past, so make sure you head along.

Sand tobogganing

If you love getting active and having your adrenalin pumping, this activity is for you. Start off with a 4WD trip to get your heart racing and then participate in a sand tobogganing activity where you can reach speeds up to 40kmh!

It is located in Tangalooma Island Resort every day of the week.
