Welcome to your visitor’s guide to exploring Sydney! Whether you’re here for the vibrant city life, stunning beaches, or breathtaking natural escapes, Sydney has something for everyone. From the bustling CBD just a short 20-30 minute drive from the airport, to the iconic Bondi Beach and the scenic Blue Mountains about 90 minutes away, this guide will help you make the most of your trip and discover the best spots around the city and beyond.
Sydney CBD is only 13km away from Australia’s busiest airport, taking approximately 20-30 minutes depending on traffic conditions. There’s something for everyone in the city centre, whether it’s shopping, dining or exploring that you’re after. Marvel in the view of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, visit cultural institutions such as the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Museum of Contemporary Art, or shop ’till you drop in at any of the many shopping centres.
In approximately 25-35 minutes (13.2km) you can make it from the Sydney airport to the infamous Bondi Beach. Enjoy a dip in the ocean or take in the view from many of the beachside restaurants. You can also enjoy the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk or soak up the atmosphere at the conveniently located Bondi Icebergs. If you do choose to swim at Bondi Beach, always remember to stay between the flags.
If you take the Harbour Tunnel, you can reach the ever-popular Manly in approximately 45-60 minutes (26.8km). A beachside location, you can expect to enjoy many activities such as surfing, swimming, stand-up paddle boarding and even snorkelling. If it’s not the beach you’re after, Manly still has plenty to offer in terms of entertainment: shop at the local markets, visit the Manly Art Gallery, or take a ferry to see the harbour views.
Want to head further afield into New South Wales? The Blue Mountains are approximately 90 minutes away and make for a great out-of-city adventure. You can walk and hike on many of the different paths, take the scenic railway at Scenic World, explore the lookouts and waterfalls and even enjoy more adventure activities such as canyoning and abseiling.
