Hobart is the Capital City of Tasmania and the southern most Capital City in Australia. From its foundations in 1803 as a Prison Colony, Hobart, based on the Derwent River saw many years of unrest as the British engaged the original inhabitants and French explorers.

It’s perfect location to the Southern Oceans and its natural deep water port, gave excellent anchorage to the Whalers and Seal hunters of the day and the town rapidly grew in both size and population.

A mild city with year round average maximum temperatures of only 16.9 degrees Celsius and an average of just 5.9 hours of sunshine each day. This rather dark and cold existence is one of the constant taunts locals receive from the fellow Australians ion the mainland.

The Hobart City Councils website has more information on the area.
