Spring is right around the corner here in Australia. Thanks to moderate temperatures and fewer weather events, spring is perhaps the absolute best time for you to take a road trip across the east coast. Waking up from a sleepy winter, the east coast states come to life from September onwards, with a treasure trove of exciting events. Even Tasmania is wiping the dust from its eyes! So once you’ve put your slippers away and dug out your togs, head to your nearest East Coast Car Rentals location and grab a set of keys to any of our rental options so you can take to the road.

1. The Barossa Valley, SA The Barossa is a must-see in spring. Temperate sun, warm breezes, and bountiful valleys of budding flowers make this region of South Australia a veritable spring (pun intended) of beauty. Flowers aren’t the only things budding, of course – with the weather picking up, the innumerable vineyards will be starting to see their first grapes cropping up. Why not make a visit to the Chateau Tanunda, home to some of the earliest plantings of vines in the valley? The beautiful architecture and landscape speaks volumes for the rich history of the region. Make sure you’ve picked a designated driver though – no way you can visit a winery without at least a little tipple! Foodies who can make it to the Barossa in the first weekend of September will be treated to a showcase of the valley’s best local produce. The Barossa Gourmet Weekend will feature 35 ticketed events, and they’re selling out fast! Get your Gourmet Trail Passport ASAP. 2. Floriade, ACT For a month over September/October, Canberra will be in full bloom! For the 30th year running, the Floriade festival will bring colour and joy into the lives of Canberrans and passersby alike. More than one million exotic blooms will paint a spectacular background for a variety of cultural and artistic displays. Set by the side of Lake Burley Griffin, the festival attracts more than 480,000 attendees each year. The organisers work carefully to make the festival as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible. This year, the flowers and attendees will be serenaded by David Bowie tribute act, The Ziggy Band, on the preview night.
3. Literally any beach
It’s the east coast. Any beach is bound to be worth your time, but maybe you want a little more direction. We’re not going to tell you to go to Bondi beach – chances are you’ve heard that a thousand times already. What we do recommend, though, is Palm Cove. Tropical North Queensland has no shortage of perfect getaway spots. We’re talking gentle waves, balmy air, and soft warm sand wrapping itself around your toes with each step. That kind of island dream-state that only seems overdone in movies because it’s not where you are right now. But it could be. Drive up to North Queensland’s cleanest beach, check in to any of Palm Cove’s beautiful beach resorts, and loosen your belt. You may need that extra space, as the Reef Feast takes place bang smack in the middle of spring. The Taste of Palm Cove is the main event of the Reef Feast, and features tasting stalls from numerous award-winning restaurants in the area. Local entertainers will play you on into a night to remember. Don’t let the best time of the year pass you by. Grab spring by bulbs and organise a rental car with us today.
