Starting on May 24 and continuing until June 10, Sydney will be immersed in state-of-the-art light installations and projections as part of the annual Vivid Sydney festival.

So, we suggest you organise a Sydney Airport car rental and take it out for an evening spin – or 18 – around the illuminated city.

You’ll find some of the highlights of Vivid Sydney detailed below. For a full list of events and more information about this not-to-be-missed festival, check out Vivid Sydney.

Luminous

This is the world’s largest interactive LED facade, located in Darling Quarter.

An impressive 150 metres wide and four storeys high, this fantastic display of Australian audiovisual know-how can be admired between 18:00 and midnight – and it’s absolutely free to do so!

Luminous is equipped with classic arcade games and interactive features that allow visitors to create their own digital fireworks displays, music and much more.

Colour The Bridge

You guessed it – as part of this festival, Sydney’s famous Harbour Bridge is getting a luminous makeover.

More than 100,800 energy-efficient LED lights have been installed on and around the bridge, and visitors will be given the opportunity to control them using an interactive system developed by 32 Hundred Lighting.

From 18:00 until midnight, you will be able to pick an area of the bridge that you want to light up, choose which colour you want that light to be and impress the entire city with your artistic illumination skills.

Vivid Aquatique

Darling Harbour will host a magnificent display that mixes dazzling lights with wonderful water. Vivid Aquatique includes a glorious wall of light, colour (20-metres tall) and water accompanied by music.

Shows will run on the hour, every hour, starting at 18:00 and finishing at midnight. This is the first time a water-and-light performance of this magnitude has been performed in Australia – so you definitely can’t miss it.
