One hour’s drive away from Melbourne International Airport is the beautiful port city of Geelong.

The second most populated city in Victoria, it is a veritable hub of art and creativity that makes for an exciting day-trip away from the capital. Your Melbourne airport car hire could get you there, and see you enjoying the following two activities!

The National Wool Museum

Starting on June 7, the National Wool Museum will play host to the fifth annual Scarf Festival.

Students of RMIT University’s Diploma of Textile Design and Development have put together a collection of sophisticated and, more importantly, sustainable scarves that have to be seen to be believed.

These textile pieces, according to RMIT University’s School of Fashion and Textiles Teacher, Lucy Adams, demonstrate that “contemporary design and sustainability sit comfortably with one of Australia’s oldest textile industries”.

The National Wool Museum also showcases everything you ever wanted to know about sheep farming, wool production and Australia’s textile industry from their humble beginnings to their mass-productive present. So check it out!

Geelong Gallery

Established in 1896, this magnificent gallery houses a massive collection of nineteenth and twentieth century Australian and European art.

It is absolutely free to visit, and offers guests the opportunity to meet the curator and discover the fascinating stories behind some of the gallery’s most popular pieces.

The Impressions of Geelong exhibition is currently on display, giving you a unique experience of the region’s beauty from the perspective of artists whose combined works span the last two centuries.

There are many more places to explore in this glorious city than we can fit here – so put your rental to good use and make the journey to Geelong!
