If you want to pick a destination for your next holiday that offers fun for the whole family, you can’t do much better than Sydney!

There are plenty of family-friendly activities for you and your kids to enjoy in the exciting capital city of New South Wales.

One destination you can’t afford to miss is Taronga Zoo. It’s located in Mosman, North Sydney, which is about a 30-minute drive from the airport.

So, you might want to organise your Sydney Airport car rental and head to Taronga Zoo for a day your kids will never forget!

The best feature of Taronga Zoo – apart from all the animals, of course – is the fact that it offers a wide range of “Daily Talks and Encounters”.  There is a Tasmanian Devil Talk, an Elephant Talk and even a Giraffe Keeper Talk!

In addition to this, make sure you get along to the wildly popular Seal Show, which has been running for over 20 years. Here you’ll get to see these majestic creatures dive, catch fish and so much more!

So, your children will not only get to spend time gazing at some exotic creatures, but also learn a thing or two while they are at it!

Taronga Zoo will give your kids the chance to see some of Australia’s weird and wonderful native species, such as kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and wombats.

So, if you’re travelling Down Under from New Zealand or another overseas location, this is a great opportunity for your children to experience something they won’t see at the zoos back home!

You can visit Taronga Zoo from 9.30am daily.

Also located in Sydney North is Luna Park, an iconic theme park that has been operating for more than 75 years.

There are plenty of rides and attractions here for your kids to choose from, whether they’re little daredevils or prefer the gentler pleasures of a carousel.

In fact, Luna Park has just installed a new carousel, which opened to the public on August 9. This is the sixth carousel to be installed in the park, contains 24 horses and took around two days to build.

Or, if your children are completely fearless, you may want to take them for a ride on the famous Wild Mouse.

Luna Park has dubbed it “Australia’s favourite rollercoaster,” but you could also say it is Australia’s fastest rollercoaster. The entire thrilling ride only lasts for approximately one minute, but you will experience a whole lot of dips and dives at dizzying heights during that time.

It is worth checking out Luna Park’s website before you pack the kids up in the car, as its opening days and hours can be quite erratic.

Finally, while an art museum may not sound like the sort of place your kids would enjoy the most, the Art Gallery of New South Wales goes above and beyond to cater for wee ones.

In addition to beautiful works of art from all different times and places, the gallery offers storytelling, tours and free performances that are sure to keep your children happily occupied!

There is also a kid’s audio tour, which is suitable for five to twelve year olds and can be downloaded for free from the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ website.

Located on the aptly named Art Gallery Road, it will take you five minutes to drive here from downtown Sydney.
