You know, we’re constantly bombarded with incessant chatter of friends and family as we are in constant connection with them via cell phones and social media. So we have an idea – it might sound a little taboo, but, we think you should go ahead and embark on a solo road trip. For your sanity’s sake!
The best part about a solo road trip is that you don’t have to follow any plan but your own. You can have your whole trip mapped out down to the very mile, or just wing it – it’s all up to you. There’s no need to please anyone else. Doesn’t that sound amazing? It’s not every day that we get to do exactly what we want.
Because you’re riding solo, you don’t have someone to remind you what you need to pack. Well we’ve got you covered there – just check out our list of essential road trip items and be on your merry way in no time.
A selfie stick
Selfies are not vain – especially when you’re embarking on a road trip for one. But your arm can only extend so far, and you need to ensure that you’re capturing yourself at the best angle, so it’s a selfie stick to the rescue. Now you’ll have tons of amazing pictures to share on social media when you do get back.
Snacks on snacks
Sometimes, you can make your road trip about food destinations, but you’ll need something to snack on to keep your energy levels up so you don’t crash (mentally and physically). Make sure your snacks are readily accessible and easy to eat as you drive so you don’t distract yourself. Trust us, a spaghetti and meatball dinner is not a behind-the-wheel meal.

Emergency supplies
Emergency supplies can consist of everything from a car phone charger (so you don’t run out of battery mid-road trip playlist, of course) to a first aid kit. We hope you’ll never need to use these supplies (well, the first aid kit at least) but it really doesn’t hurt to be over prepared. Before you leave, consider the driving conditions so you know exactly what to pack.
And just in case your charger fails you, be sure to bring an old school map along, that way you’ll never truly be lost.
Songs that you melodramatically belt to only!
Entertainment
For those long stretches in between destinations you need something to keep your eyes open and your mind alert. What does this consist of? Killer music playlists (songs that you melodramatically belt to only) and stimulating books on tape. Just make sure these activities aren’t going to distract you from safe driving!
You should invest in a phone holder that clips to your dashboard or sticks to your windshield so you hardly have to take your eyes off the road when you need to skip a song (of course, you should just create a playlist filled with only your favourite songs so this doesn’t have to happen in the first place).
A rental car
There are a lot of reasons you should get a rental car for your journey, but we’ll state the most important: they’re reliable. More so than your old clunker, at least. When you’re going the distance, you want a car that has routine inspections and a good history. The car fleet we supply here at East Coast Car Rentals has a variety of options, so you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for on your road trip. It’s just a matter of contacting us to set up your reservation today.
