Plenty of Aussies will be hitting the roads this weekend for a three-day family vacation, romantic getaway or fun-filled road trip with friends.
So, we’ve put together a few tips to make sure that you get the most out of your time in Sydney this long weekend.
Obey the rules
We know that you’ll be doing this already, but the stakes are even higher this weekend.
From Friday June 7 to Monday June 10, double demerits will be in place for all speeding and seatbelt offences.
To stop yourself from making dangerous mistakes while driving your car hire near Sydney airport, make sure you take plenty of breaks if you’re driving long distances and slow down.
Think before you fill up
Here’s a handy tip, courtesy of our friends at the National Roads and Motorists’ Association (NRMA).
The average price for petrol in Sydney is $1.35 cents per litre; however, over the long weekend, this could fluctuate dramatically depending on where you’re buying gas.
Peter Khoury, spokesperson for NRMA Motoring & Services, said that the difference in price between the most and least expensive petrol this weekend could be “as much as 30 cents per litre”.
He therefore encourages drivers to “shop around” before deciding where to fill up.
Plan ahead
The roads of New South Wales are going to be jam-packed with holiday-goers this weekend, particularly on Friday and Monday evening.
Take this into consideration when planning your journey, so you don’t waste too much precious vacation time sitting in traffic!
And, in keeping with the spirit of taking plenty of breaks, make sure you plan where you’re going to stop before you set off.
Familiarising yourself with your route and knowing where and when you can take a break will prevent you from getting stuck on a long road when you’re feeling tired, or limit the chances of passengers needing the bathroom when you’re far away from civilisation.
Safe and happy driving, everyone!
