Located 1700 kilometres north of Brisbane and 2500 kilometres north of Sydney, by road, Cairns is certainly not one of the largest populated cities in Australia. Locations such as Smithfield and Kuranda are linked by an old steam train and more recently by the new Skyrail. Whilst both the cable car and the Kuranda Scenic Railway give the best views of the dense, green forests, Kuranda itself is easily accessible by road and a popular destination for visitors to the area, particularly since its markets are well known for their Aboriginal Art and cultural activities.
