Often referred to as the 'Apple Isle', partly because of it geographic shape and partly for the fact that it is mostly covered in lush green vegetation, Tasmania lies off of the South East corner of Australia in the Tasman Sea.
With its mild climate and moderate year round rainfall, Tasmania is one of the most mountainous islands in the world, reflecting its connection with Antarctica before the continental shelves drifted apart, millions of years ago. Popular amongst both Domestic and International visitors, the island offers exposed and rugged West Coast terrain that is constantly battered by the 'roaring forties' winds of the Southern Ocean, whilst its protects its eastern coast where the majority of the population reside.
