Divided by the Peel River, Tamworth, with its population of 43,000 residents, is the heart and sole of Australia's Country Music, much the same way that Nashville is in the United States of America.
The focus of the Annual Music Festival, each January, sometimes over-shadows the fact that Tamworth is also a large livestock centre with numerous equine events held here each year. Perhaps the least known fact about the town is that it was the first in the Southern Hemisphere to adopt the use of electric street lights.
Of course, Australia is the land of the 'big' and Tamworth's contribution is the 'Big Guitar', which stands outside of the Wax Museum and 'Hands of Fame' Park.
