One of the factors that contribute highly to Australia's annual road toll statistics is excessive speed. Posted speed limits are there to ensure that vehicles are traveling at a maximum safe speed for the area. The maximum speed in residential areas through out Queensland is 50km/h. On the open motorways this can increase to 110km/hr
