Originally home to the indigenous Karriyarra people, Port Hedland lies in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Home to 15,000 residents the Port itself is one of the worlds largest (in terms of tonnage) with over 3 billion dollars worth, 70 million tonnes shipped each year.
Local attractions for tourists include, the Don Rhodes Mining Museum, Pioneer and Pearlers’ Cemetery, Dalgety House and of course the Port itself, where large ships measuring up to 230m and weighing 260,000 tonnes make their way through the narrow harbour entrance which is adjacent to the main street.
