Lying to the south of Botany Bay and 26 kilometres from Sydney, Cronulla is located on the eastern coast. The area is a popular tourist resort, offering great surfing year round. NSW locals have been visiting the area for picnics and day trips since the 1800's. As such, today there are many Motels, Apartments and restaurants available for visitors.
A normally quiet seaside town, Cronulla made front page news in 2005 when almost 5,000 protestors became violent in race riots. The riots lead to retaliation that saw much property damage and injury.
Sports are a major part of the local culture with Surf Life Saving being represented at the counties highest level as well as being home to the Cronulla Sharks Rugby League team in the BNRL competition.
