When visiting Cooktown it is easy to see through the instant beauty and realise that it has long been a remote town, isolated and almost forgotten about as time has gone by.
Named after Captain James Cook, the town was Australia's first non-indigenous settlement. Scene to many turbulent years as settlers from Europe and China came chasing the Gold.
Every year, in June, the locals re-enact the landing of Cook in the Endeavour Ceremony. The James Cook Historical Museum is hosts to many visitors year round and portrays the history of the town.
