Driving in Coffs Harbour

Famous for its Fishing and Bananas, Coffs Harbour, or Coffs as it is known to the locals, lies on the eastern coast of Australia, 570 north of Sydney.

Initially settled for the timber in the area, the harbour saw up to 450 ships use the port each year, until a boycott was imposed until the lighthouse was built in 1878. Fijian Bananas were introduced in the late 19th century and this has continued to be a major produce of the area to this day. It is recognised by the 'Big Banana' tourist attraction, which is a plantation that displays bananas and banana related products.

The coast line itself can be spectacular, although rocky outcrops and the exposure to winds from the south-west, often creates dangerous conditions on the beaches.
