Mention the word 'Bathurst' to most Australians and they will tell you about Mount Panorama, V8 Supercars, Peter Brock, Fords vs Holden and 1,000 kilometres of the toughest motor racing in the world.
It would seem strange then, to discover, that for the other 51 weeks of the year, Bathurst is a relatively quiet town and the race circuit are actually the streets of the surrounding area. One of the other unique features of bathurst is that it has 'house museums'. These are homes that represent all of the different era's in history since its first settlement in 1815 up until 1970.
With a population approaching 40,000 residents, it is by no means a small City and offers a diverse range of accommodation and dinning options. Of course, there is one week of the year that you might find it hard to book a room, as all eyes of the nation focus in again for the 'Battle of the Mountain'.
