Proserpine is the admin centre for the Whitsunday’s Shire. Other than the Hamilton Island Airport, it is home to the closest Airport to the Whitsunday Islands and just a short 20 minute drive to Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour.

Named after the Greek goddess of fertility, a visit to the region with it endless sugar cane fields, and expansive cattle grazing paddocks, confirms its rightful ownership to its name.

One of the highlights for visitors during the winter months is the lighting of the cane fields, in preparation for harvest. With the setting sun competing with the blazing fire as to which has the most spectacular shades of red, its definitely one of the regions best photo opportunities.
